Proposed State EMS Changes

I received an e-mail today from our regional coordinator in regards to a document sent to the Department of State in regards to proposed rules changes in the field of Emergency Medical Services. On page one of the document it lays out the location of the changes which including the following. All the changes proposed are under the chapter 1200-12-01 (General Rules)

  • 1200-12-01-.02 Ambulance Safety, design, and Construction Standards
  • 1200-12-01-.03 Emergency Medical Services Equipment and Supplies
  • 1200-12-01-.11 Ambulance Service Operations and Procedures
  • 1200-12-01-.15 Ambulance Service Records
Most of the changes on pages 2-7 of this document have to do with changes in the design of the exterior of the ambulances. In the beginning section of this document, the proposed change includes the ability for all services to choose the color of the ambulance as long as they meet certain specific lettering sizes and reflective nature of markings. Additionally, the topics of choice include word differences in supplies as well as changes in required equipment.

Changes such as these should be reviewed by all stakeholders to ensure we understand the current "State of the State".

Remember to sign up for the 2010 TEMSEA conference and join us for a trip "Riding the High Seas of EMS Education" in Gatlinburg Tennessee starting the 21st of July.
